The New Normal

by

Cyberattacks are increasing in frequency, impact and reach. In developing my annual National Security Management Course, which convenes senior military and civilian leaders to explore the most pressing global security challenges, the rise of cybersecurity threats is the new normal.

Cyberattacks compromise safety of medicine, security of food and water, disrupt transportation, cripple power grids and destabilize nuclear plants. They can undermine democratic institutions or governments.

We need vigilance and action against the threat of cyber that transcends the public and private sectors. Cybersecurity controls are necessary but insufficient in both. Cyber threats need a credible strategy to be defeated.
