Literacy is more essential for success now than ever, yet statistics are worrying: Fewer adults are reading for pleasure, standardized test reading scores have stagnated and 21% of adults read below a fifth-grade level. Planet Word Museum hopes to address this issue by inspiring a love of language.
Planet Word is set to open in spring 2020 in DC’s Franklin School. In the entrance plaza, visitors will be greeted by a sculptural “speaking” willow tree. Inside, guests can do everything from create a marketing campaign and watch themselves give a famous speech to hear spoken-word poets and authors.
