Improving our democracy

The NAACP is dedicated to ensuring the political, educational, social and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate race-based discrimination.

“Voting is the foundation stone for political action,” proclaimed Martin Luther King on the legendary Selma-Montgomery march that prompted the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

We have made tremendous strides toward justice and equality since their steps to Montgomery. Yet, with a president more concerned with “voter fraud” than voting rights, the hard work of improving our democracy continues.

Today, the NAACP and its more than 2,200 branches keep up the fight against voter suppression in all corners of the country. Just like Dr. King, we never rest. We keep fighting, intent on moving our nation ever forward.
