by Sally Schroder

Washington D.C. offers a rich array of events this July, beyond Independence Day celebrations:

The Smithsonian Folklife Festival, from July 2-7 on the National Mall, delves into “Youth and the Future of Culture,” showcasing diverse traditions with crafts, music and food.

For a unique experience, the National Cannabis Festival returns July 18-19 for a two-day concert and exhibitor fair.

The Summer Concert Series at The Yards Park provides free live music on select Fridays.

Additionally, many Smithsonian museums will feature new and ongoing exhibits, including “Shazia Sikander: The Last Post,” which opens at the American Art Museum on July 3.
