Adjustments to MASH guidelines are critical prior to implementation

by

The Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH) is critical to roadway safety and reaching Toward Zero Deaths on our roadways.

The American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) and the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) have a joint implementation agreement for MASH, which requires them to implement 2016 updates.

ATSSA believes adjustments need to be made to MASH protocols, including the allowance of generic testing on certain devices such as Type III barricades, allowance of sample testing of portable sign stands, and the exemption of lightweight Category 1 devices such as traffic cones, barrels, posts, and delineators from testing.
