Commander-in-Tweet

You might say 2016 was the first “Twitter election.” Candidates, voters, and pundits alike unleashed 140-character missives at an alarming rate unseen in prior elections – including candidates engaging each other directly through social media.

But if we’re to pick one that best sums up election night, or 2016 in general, we would have to go with the Washington Post’s tweeter-extraordinaire @daveweigel, whose hot take from 1:28 a.m. on Nov. 9 summed things up thusly:

“If you don’t count the 2015 U.K. Election, Brexit, the Cubs win, and tonight, been a great year for the experts.”
