After the elections, Resonate forecasted that 2017 would be the year of advocacy. Then, one week in, House Republicans voted to essentially eradicate the Office of Congressional Ethics. Within 24 hours, Google searches for “Who is my representative” skyrocketed and thousands of constituents called their representatives to condemn the vote. Less than a day later, the decision to gut the committee was reversed.
The politics can be debated, but let’s appreciate that voters were engaged enough to reverse a Washington decision so rapidly – and think of the power that well-executed advocacy campaigns will have on the policies this year.
