State legislatures around the country are kicking off their sessions with an eye on dramatic changes in Washington.
Many states are wondering what will happen to their expanded Medicaid programs if the Affordable Care Act is repealed. More conservative state legislatures want to stop liberal cities from going their own way on raising the minimum wage, paid family and medical leave, immigration, LGBT issues, and even plastic bag bans.
Energy might be a more unifying issue – Republican governors say they are committed to boosting renewable energy in their states, even if the White House increases federal support for fossil fuels.
