Smart, common sense and forward-looking regulations are critical to advancing the U.S. energy renaissance. When it comes to reducing methane emissions, the oil and natural gas industry is part of the solution.
Since 1990, methane emissions dropped nearly 20% while natural gas production increased 50%. Technological innovation and existing EPA and state regulations are proving effective, which makes BLM’s methane rule duplicative and unnecessary. Also, BLM doesn’t have legal authority to regulate air quality.
That’s why the Senate should repeal BLM’s rule so our industry can continue making contributions to strengthen the American economy and benefit the environment.
