Immigration: the Battle Over Sanctuary Cities

by

If you had to list three topics that grab conservatives’ attention, you’d be hard pressed to come up with a better list than federalism, security and spending — all of which are colliding now in a battle over immigration “sanctuary cities.”

To critics, liberal cities are refusing to cooperate with federal authorities to remove dangerous criminals while demanding federal law enforcement funding. To supporters, federal authorities are damaging cooperation with local communities and abandoning federalism principles.

Initial salvos have Attorney General Sessions demanding that 10 jurisdictions reverse the policies and a federal judge enjoining the Trump EO that spurred Sessions’ action.
