Medicaid: as Washington Tries to Cut, States Take Action

by

In Washington the proposed American Health Care Act contains a Medicaid funding cut of $839 billion. Since children make up about half of total enrollment in the Medicaid program, a funding cut of this magnitude would have a major impact on millions of children.

In a contrast to cuts in Washington, Utah Governor Gary Herbert took action this month to encourage child enrollment in public health insurance programs to address reports of high state child uninsured rates.

To track these trends, Georgetown CCF created new data maps detailing the number of children on Medicaid in each state and congressional district.
