State-Level Policy at the Forefront

by Michael Polzella

It can be easy to view our national policy debates from a Washington-centric viewpoint. It is, after all, the nation’s capital and the driving force behind much of the national political conversation.

But it’s often said states are “laboratories of democracy” – an adage that has become increasingly true throughout an era when Washington is known more for gridlock and partisanship than for ushering through Great Society or New Deal-sized legislation.

This edition of The Washington DC 100 will explore those topics – including immigration, healthcare, energy and more – that state and local legislators are taking on outside the Beltway.
