Food Safety in the Age of Trump

by

President Trump is a self-described “germaphobe” who prefers eating KFC, McDonald’s and well-done steaks with catsup. His buildings’ restaurants have good safety records (except for one recent dust-up).

This suggests he might be good on food safety, his previous concerns about “FDA Food Police” notwithstanding. So far, his administration has proposed dramatic cuts to HHS and USDA, though these don’t appear to target a decline in food safety funding.

Ultimately, with a president who’s been “flexible” about policy positions, it’s difficult to know if he’ll put food safety where his mouth is until he signs a budget.
