The ESRB and Video Games: the Gold Standard in Self-Regulation

by Michael Polzella

The Entertainment Software Rating Board is the self-regulatory, nonprofit body for the video game industry and has been assigning age and content ratings to games for 23 years.

In that time, ESRB has worked with industry professionals, video game publishers, developers, retailers and parents to develop innovative self-regulation solutions and enforce industry-adopted marketing guidelines.

Thanks to the hard work of all those involved, ESRB continues to provide consumers, especially parents, in North America with access to ESRB’s trusted and familiar ratings so they can make more informed decisions about the age-appropriateness of video games and apps.
