Trade is hot. In 2017 alone:
The U.S. left the 12-nation Trans-Pacific Partnership, kicked off renegotiation of the 23-year-old North American Free Trade Agreement and is revisiting the 5-year-old Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement.
The remaining 11 TPP nations are finalizing a new agreement minus the U.S. The 16-nation Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership negotiation is proceeding. Canada’s new trade agreement with the EU entered into force. China and Mexico are considering a bilateral agreement.
2017 is a trade sprint. What this means for U.S. competitiveness remains an open question.
