Education beyond high school, vocational and technical certificates and college degrees is critical in today’s economy. The public workforce development system, charged with helping people upgrade skills and find jobs, is an unrecognized but mighty ally.
Workforce programs – funded by federal, state and local governments – partner with employers to ensure training aligns with market demand and produces useful credentials. The programs also provide academic and tuition support to help workers complete their studies.
The results are encouraging, yet public investment in skill building is declining. Supporting our public workforce system is necessary to improve worker skills and enhance economic opportunity.
