Pollinators are an essential – and overlooked – contributor to global food security. These natural farmers are responsible for one-third of our diet. Nearly all nutrients, antioxidants and vitamins we consume come from pollinator-dependent plant products.
But pollinators are threatened by many factors: loss of habitat, climate change, pathogens, parasites, pesticides. Addressing these challenges requires hard work from governments, researchers, farmers and citizens. These efforts will start locally. So, plant a pollinator garden. Support nearby farmers. Write a letter to your elected representative.
Improving the health of honeybees and native pollinators will help us meet this most basic human need.
