They may not realize it, but campaigns are on the front lines of a 21st century cyber battle. Malicious actors are stepping up attacks to undermine our democracy.

Campaigns can reduce their vulnerability with simple steps. That’s the impetus for “The Cybersecurity Campaign Playbook,” a new, bipartisan guide from Defending Digital Democracy, a project I lead at Harvard Kennedy School’s Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs.

Developed by cybersecurity, politics and law experts, the Playbook outlines practical, preventive steps every campaign should take. We have to raise our game so American voters – and no one else – decide our elections.
