Americans have the right to choose their elected government free from foreign interference.
But Russian operatives targeted 39 state election systems in the lead-up to the 2016 elections, and they will be back. These cyber intrusions exposed the country’s election infrastructure as outdated and vulnerable to attack.
Government officials must invest in America’s election infrastructure to defend the security of our election system as a matter of national security and sovereignty. This includes replacing outdated voting machines and ensuring all votes have a paper record, minimum cybersecurity standards for election infrastructure, and effective postelection audits to confirm election outcomes.
