Donald Trump’s news coverage during his first months in office broke all sorts of records.

He got more than twice the news attention of any recent president in the same period, and he obliterated the old record, held by Bill Clinton, for negative coverage. Eighty percent of the non-neutral news statements about Trump were unfavorable.

Toss in the surreal tweets, lies and charges of “fake news” and we’re seeing a Washington melodrama unlike any before seen— a real-time “House of Cards.” And it’s playing at the box office. Ratings are up, a boon to cash-strapped news outlets.
