Strengthening school safety measures

by

In the wake of the tragic shooting in Parkland, Florida, state legislatures around the country are taking a closer look at strengthening school safety measures, including potentially arming school employees.

The vast majority of states generally prohibit firearms in K-12 schools; however, nearly half make some exception to their laws. While only a handful of states specifically name school employees as exempt from their firearms ban, others make exceptions for those with a concealed carry licenses or for those with permission from a school authority.

This paints a complex picture of the states where school employees currently carry firearms.
