About 96 Americans are killed by guns every single day; probably twice as many are shot and injured and will carry with them long-term health consequences.
Firearms are a clear concern for the health of the public. In 2016, we convened the Deans of Schools of Public Health to articulate an Agenda for Action. The agenda urges more research on the issue; the formation of coalitions of public health, public safety and gun owners to encourage common sense gun laws; and a national firearm safety conversation.
This is a public health approach to what is ultimately a health tragedy.
