A consensus on legislation will not be an easy task

by

Last month, Facebook’s CEO testified before Congress, surfacing the need for comprehensive privacy legislation. U.S. privacy regulations have stalled under the Trump administration, whose leadership has already rescinded many of the Obama-era rules that were crafted to respond to massive data breaches.

But, getting to consensus on legislation will not be an easy task. Big data and predictive algorithms are dominating the internet economy. While ad-targeting is keeping the medium free, consumers are realizing that they have little control over their data.

These and other issues will most likely make it into future discussions on privacy legislation.
