At National Governor Association (NGA) meetings across the country this year, Republican and Democratic governors have increased their engagement with foreign leaders on issues of trade, investment and shared policy challenges.
Since January, governors have met with Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull and Ghanaian President Nana Akufo-Addo, exchanged best practices in mitigating technology-driven unemployment with Canadian and Mexican governors and liaised with visiting delegations from Japan, China, Kenya and Germany.
Subnational leaders are critical transformation agents in the global arena, and they all share common goals of creating jobs, ensuring a healthy economy and enhancing North American competitiveness.
