America is facing an acute truck driver shortage. That’s why recruiting drivers among the next generation is key to the industry’s future success.
The federal government currently prohibits 18- to 21-year-old drivers from driving across state lines. When we deny young adults access to this profession at the start of their careers, they settle into other industries. They aren’t likely to turn to trucking later.
We must raise awareness about the shortage and implore policymakers to embrace and plan for the future. That starts with acknowledging the opportunities trucking presents for the 18-to 21-year-old population.
