Seniors at Florida Polytechnic University are working on a video game targeted toward pediatric respiratory health patients to help them get excited about a common breathing exercise.
Patients are often asked to blow into a spirometer to exercise their lungs. When they blow, a ball lifts in a tube, showing patients how well they’re doing.
The game, “Deep Sea Breathers,” allows patients ages 5-15 to use breath to fill an oxygen tank and explore the ocean.
Lakeland Regional Health is sponsoring the project. Students developing it hope it’ll help keep young patients engaged and motivated during their recovery and treatments.
