Hidden behind a tall hedge, the White House Children’s Garden was the final gift from President Lyndon B. Johnson and First Lady Johnson closing their tenure in 1969.
For over 50 years, the children and grandchildren of presidents have not only visited this secret garden but have contributed by leaving their handprints. There are over 30 handprints pressed into clay and later recast in bronze that adorn the pathways of the garden with space for many more.
The garden brings a special connection that goes beyond politics to link something more intimate: the Presidential families who have filled the White House.
