Sweet DC holiday tradition

by The 100 Companies

The first recorded White House gingerbread creation was displayed on the mahogany console table in 1968 for President Lyndon B. Johnson’s family. The gift, more a cottage than a house, was set in front of a mirror so the confection could be admired from all sides.

Since then, pastry chefs have created intricate displays, unveiled for the first family and visitors to enjoy during the holidays. A-frame designs, villages, monuments and scale models of the executive mansion have all been featured as the houses became more elaborate. Guests touring the White House during the holidays can see the latest design.
