While tech giants like Facebook, Twitter and Google offer ever-expanding portfolios of no-cost services, consumers are paying with increasingly detailed levels of personal data. Often, consumers are not fully aware just how much of their information is collected and how it is being used.
At a minimum, consumers must have the transparency necessary to make informed decisions about whether to share their data and how best to protect it.
The tech industry must respond to growing concerns over data privacy and security to restore the public trust. We’ll continue working in Congress to encourage greater transparency for consumers.
