About 45% of all births in the United States are paid for by Medicaid. And about 40% of those women do not make a postpartum appointment with a doctor.
That’s important because maternal deaths usually happen in the weeks after a baby is born – not during pregnancy or labor.
Jennifer E. Moore, founding executive director of the Institute for Medicaid Innovation, co-authored a recent article in Health Affairs examining ways to improve postpartum care for women on Medicaid by expanding the length and type of coverage. Moore will be one of the speakers at Medicaid: Innovation At Work.
