Regulation over media consolidation and technology will be one of the biggest media stories in 2018.

AT&T and Time Warner are still waiting to see whether the Justice Department will officially block their proposed merger, which will set a precedent for other big deals in the future. If Obama-era net neutrality rules are repealed, it could change the Internet economy for years to come.

Issues with platform abuse, like the spread of violence and terrorism, illegal content and election meddling, will continue to be a major focus for lawmakers and regulators next year and years to come.
