Funding for Alzheimer’s

by Michael Polzella

Of the top 10 diseases that kill Americans, nine are declining and one — Alzheimer’s — is spiking.

Given recent drug trial failures, there’s little hope the baby-boom generation will see a treatment, let alone a cure. The disease cost America $259 billion in 2017 and is estimated to cost $1.1 trillion by 2050, almost single-handedly bankrupting Medicare and Medicaid — not to mention millions of Americans.

That’s why it’s crazy for President Trump to propose slashing Alzheimer’s budgets by more than 20%. Hopefully, Congress will do as they did last year: Proudly defy the president and increase Alzheimer’s funding.
