One week after President-elect Trump’s surprise victory, House Speaker Paul Ryan welcomed in the “dawn of a new unified Republican government.” The GOP has held both the presidency and majorities in the House and Senate just once (2003-2007) since the Hoover Administration.
Despite Trump’s tepid support from many Republicans throughout the election, I expect GOP lawmakers to look past differences with the incoming president and rally around their shared priorities – such as repealing and replacing Obamacare, cutting taxes, and securing the U.S.-Mexico border – bringing an end to the gridlock that has defined Washington for so long.
