Prior to enactment of SB 627 that I sponsored, state statute was: “No person advertising, offering for sale, or selling a carcass shall engage in any misleading or deceptive practice including misrepresenting the cut, grade, brand or trade name, or weight or measure of any product.”
SB 627 included language from Sen. Sandy Crawford that added a prohibition on misrepresenting a product as meat that is not derived from harvested production livestock or poultry.
I agree that clear labeling is best for both producer and end user. False advertising is deceptive, especially to those making food choices for health purposes.
