A brave new world of choices

by
Food product labels

U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Commissioner Scott Gottlieb was on to something when he said: “An almond doesn’t lactate” while describing efforts to modernize food standards of identity like “milk,” so there’s greater clarity and consumers are not misled.

FDA and the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) are also working out how to label and regulate food products derived from cells of livestock and poultry.

Science and innovation are offering a brave new world in food production giving consumers a variety of choices. What’s important is ensuring the regulatory process does not favor one choice over another.
