The president’s FY 2019 budget eliminates critical funding that supports the nationwide Meals on Wheels network. Such cuts would add insult to injury as 1 in 4 local programs already has a waiting list of seniors in need of support.
Meals on Wheels keeps seniors healthy, independent and out of health care settings that cost taxpayers billions of dollars. Yet, these programs consistently receive insufficient funding that cannot keep pace with a rapidly growing senior population.
We need to step up and invest further in our seniors so that we do not face even greater social and economic consequences later.
