Will Congress act?

This time is different, they say. Columbine, Newtown, Orlando, Las Vegas, Parkland. These are America’s best known mass murders of innocents by men who used weapons of war.

Roughly 97% of Americans favor comprehensive background checks. Large majorities favor banning assault rifle sales. And yet, the NRA flexes its political muscle and obscures, distracts, and undermines sensible gun laws that respect the Second Amendment.

President Trump promised to upend the conventional and wreck the powerful lobbies that rob Americans of their rights. But on gun laws, Congress is paralyzed, the President’s not leading. This time, tragically will be no different.
