Trade enforcement is not the same as a trade war

by
Senator Brown of Ohio

American steel jobs are under attack from Chinese cheating. It’s past time we fought back. That’s why the administration’s steel tariffs are long overdue.

Trade enforcement is not the same as a trade war. These tariffs are a justified reaction to the severe threat facing steel communities. Tariffs are just one important tool to fight back against trade cheats, though – they can be effective, but they’re also temporary.

To fix our trade imbalance with China, we need a comprehensive, long-term strategy including reforming the WTO and making sure foreign investments in the U.S. work for U.S. jobs.

U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown, Member of the Senate Agriculture, Nutrition, and Forestry Committee
