Improving health and safety in Hawaiʻi

by
Gov. David Ice

Hawai‘i has one of the lowest rates of gun violence in the nation thanks to our common-sense laws, so when the Legislature passed a bill prohibiting bump stocks and other trigger modifications, I was proud to sign it.

Hawaiʻi also has a rich hunting culture and upholds the rights of gun owners who use their weapons safely. There are no natural predators for Hawaiʻi’s wild game. People hunt for food and to protect the environment. Assault-style trigger modifications aren’t needed for these activities.

Ultimately, the bump stock ban will improve our community’s health and safety.
