The old medical center that once treated AIDS patients in private is being transformed into a free cultural center open to the public, thanks to Fivesquares Development’s partnership with Whitman-Walker Health.
The development – called Liz – will include a first-floor cultural center with programming including art exhibits, poetry readings, panel discussions and artist talks. Brooklyn landscape architecture firm Future Green designed the outdoor park-like space, featuring built-in bench seating, artwork, plantings and boardwalk-inspired wooden planks.
Apartments, restaurants, and office and retail space will occupy the center’s top floors. Liz is set to open in early October.
