Walmart faces the driver shortage

by
Walmart

With predictable schedules and access to great benefits and pay, Walmart strives to be the best place for truck drivers to work. That’s why we have turnover as low as 7% historically compared to 90% nationally. However, the shortage affects Walmart, too; recently, we began offering up to $1,500 referral bonuses.

It goes beyond what companies can do – poor infrastructure, highway congestion and limited safe, efficient parking contribute to the tight market. Maybe equally important, many states allow commercial licenses for drivers 18 and older; policymakers should consider making the lower age limit a national standard for qualified drivers.
