Farmers Union: Congress Must Write a Farm Bill That Works for Farmers

by

American family farmers and ranchers are facing a 50% decline in net farm income over the last four years. And they’re doing so without an adequate safety net, forcing many to exit the industry.

Why? The last Farm Bill was based on cutting spending instead of meeting American producers’ needs, and many of the programs designed to provide family farmers and ranchers a safety net when markets decline are not working as planned.

As Congress begins writing the 2018 Farm Bill, its priority should be writing a bill that works for family farmers, not one that meets an arbitrary budget.
