The link between food and agriculture research and human health is increasingly a topic of discussion, but it should also be top of mind. Food safety advances are just one example of food and agriculture sciences’ impact on our daily lives.
New knowledge and technologies like refrigeration and pasteurization eliminate foodborne illnesses that caused widespread disease in our past. Control of foodborne pathogens has contributed to better health and longevity of people in the U.S., and continued support for science today will allow U.S. farmers to continue to produce safe, healthy food in the face of tomorrow’s challenges.
