Keeping Federal Child Nutrition Programs Strong

by
American Academy of Pediactrics

Children consume up to half of their daily calories in school, so ensuring those meals are healthy and nutritious is critical.

For some children, the only food they eat comes from the federal school meals program. They rely on balanced meals to concentrate and succeed. When USDA announced a decision that would reverse important progress on school meals, AAP opposed.

In September, the House of Representatives will vote on a budget resolution that cuts funding for school meals and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Our children deserve better; pediatricians will speak out at every turn to protect federal nutrition programs.
