Celebrating our farmers and ranchers

I appreciate National Ag Day and National Ag Week because it gives us pause to celebrate our farmers and ranchers and to think about the work involved in raising crops and livestock.

We often take our secure and affordable food, fiber and fuel supply for granted not realizing that it is not by accident we have it. Our farm families face challenges of every kind, including natural disasters, depressed prices, foreign subsidies, regulatory burdens and other uncertainties.

That is why they need the farm bill done this year so they have the necessary tools to manage factors beyond their control.
